Habitual Contrition is a spiritual journey of reconciliation. A construct from poems and observations recorded over fifteen years. Thoughts and emotions emanating from the internal conflict of religious instruction with the art of living in secular culture. Habitual Contrition is a journey of faith through a gauntlet of human experiences cloaked in religion, for better or worse. It’s cynicism and a love letter about beliefs, doubts, consciousness, deceit, charlatans, materialism, love, science, death, human frailty, self-fulfilling prophecies, the end times, eternal reward, and the most egregious sin, lifelessness. Habitual Contrition is part confession and part contrition. It’s coming out the other side of a long journey not just as a physical body having a spiritual experience but as a spirit having a physical experience. It’s paying a debt to my parents and myself.
