As her therapy continues, she discovers that she has repressed her memories of the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse she endured throughout her childhood. Her psychologist Tim understands that due to the trauma she faced, Michelle survived the only way she could, by constructing a safe fantasy world in her head. She also learned to feel shame and guilt instead of the healthy self-esteem that would have naturally developed had she been brought up in a loving nurturing environment.Tim creates a safe place where Michelle can become that little girl again and confront the monsters that haunted her.
