Crossing the Suez Canal tells the story of how Egypt and its military won back their beloved Sinai from Israel in the Arab–Israeli War of October 6, 1973 a.k.a the Yom Kippur war. This victory proved the impossible could become possible through the perseverance and brilliance of the leading Arab nation that stormed the Suez Canal and destroyed the Bar–Lev line fortifications. The Egyptian victory stunned and awed the world and led eventually to the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel in 1979.Samy Ibrahim, born in post–World War II Egypt and was raised in a Christian home that taught him to love God, family, and country. It was from this milieu that the young engineering graduate was drafted into the Egyptian Army. As a first lieutenant, Samy and his soldiers supported a Corps of Engineers' unit opening the gap in the high earth wall along the Israeli–held eastern shores of the Suez Canal. They transported many of the Egyptian Second Army units across the Suez Canal to reach the Bar–Lev line fortifications that were eventually destroyed leading to Sinai's return to its Egyptian homeland.
