I Am Resilient! Sid the Skunk's Superb Skills in Mental Toughness: A Kid's Guidebook is part story and part workbook based on the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help children develop resiliency skills. Sid the Skunk learns how to manage his stinking thinking through mindfulness and coping strategies. This book was designed for use in classrooms to promote mental wellness, as an adjunct to therapy, and as an aide to parents to use with their children struggling with emotional control.

Dr. Sarah K. Gardner, PsyD, NCC, is a licensed psychologist in Maryland, a pediatric neuropsychologist, a national certified counselor, and an author. She has published in the International Journal of Choice Theory/Reality Therapy and is the author of a quote-a-day book, Moments of Clarity: Thoughts for Reflection. She specializes in neurodevelopmental disorders (especially autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, and learning disabilities) and provides psychological evaluations and mental health counseling services to individuals of all ages.

She earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Gardner obtained two years of postdoctoral training in the field of pediatric neuropsychology at Moore Counseling Center in Moore, Oklahoma. She has a master of science degree in clinical psychology from Argosy University and a master of arts degree in clinical mental health counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Gardner earned her undergraduate degree with a major in psychology and a minor in gerontology from Towson University. She is the owner of Maryland Neuropsychological Services, LLC.

Inspired by her therapy work with her patients, Dr. Gardner created this book to fill a need in the psychology/counseling field. The hope for this book is that Sid the Skunk will bring children a fun and interactive way to develop emotional control.
