Something is terribly wrong with Vernon Rivers, a young boy whose parents have taken him to every specialist they can think of. At the end of their rope, they finally take him to see a priest, who determines the only remedy is an exorcism. Before the big night, his father, Kirk, has his first of many encounters with the paranormal: an encoded message telling him he must intervene in the exorcism, and to his wife's dismay, Kirk obeys.
