Stella has heartaches, relationship aches, spiritual confusion, rejectionitis, loneliness, fear-- things we all hope will silently and quickly evaporate, never to be seen again without any effort on our part. That's hope...but it's probably not gonna happen. Remembering God's voice from several years prior, she begins talking with God about "isms and aches."
The young lady doesn't know how to approach Him, what to say, how to hear, or even the first step. Her distorted view of God swung between commander and striker from the way she viewed Dad. Perception is everything! After years of external and internal failures and the policy of continuing to live the same way and expect different results, she was done. She'd had it.
If you are in a similar situation, you can know God's good nature of gentleness and kindness, His persuasive convincing instead of counting and convicting, and His extraordinary intelligence and humor. This is good news! Remember, you cannot change your heart. God will not change your mind. But if you are willing to change your thoughts, God will change your heart.
For many years, Stella has asked a variety of people, "How do you let go?" No one has the answer. "Send it away, put it out of your mind, use a punching bag," they offered. The question her son asked, "And, Mom, just how do you let go?" remained with her for many years.
Helpers, teachers, and mentors guided her into unknown territory, and she found God or He found her in deep despair. She came to know the need to have skin in the game. As she actively pursued God, He was revealed in unexpected ways and greater depths. Stella became willing to begin life's adventure with God, knowing challenges were ahead. She thought it may be painful to go there, but once the revelation of truth occurred with Him, Liberation, with a capital "L," replaced long-held lies.
