Frederic and Charlotte Rosenthal finally took their first steps toward a new life in Three Oaks, Michigan, when they boarded a boat bound for Ellis Island one year, six months, and eight days after the end of the Second World War. Holocaust survivors with barely a penny in their pockets, they feared so many unknowns, but what terrified them most was the birth of their first child, due only three months later. They weren't ready for what happened next. Chasing Sunsets takes place over three generations, told through stories shared by Frederic and Charlotte's granddaughter Sarah Emma, in her conversations with Liam, a local reporter. It's a story laced with secrets, the good and the bad that lives inside us all, class divides, and family bonds. But most of all, it's an exploration of different kinds of love and how far we'll go for "what's best" for the ones we love.

About The Author

Jennifer Birn is a journalist, publicist and first–time novelist. She started as a newspaper reporter and columnist and wrote for many glossy monthly magazines before settling into working at celebrity weekly magazines for the better part of a decade. A launch editor of OK! Magazine's US edition, she spent five years as Society Editor, where she penned a blog called Simplyjen about "an ordinary girl living an extraordinary life," before people were regularly documenting their lives for public consumption. Like the characters in the novel, Jennifer is the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. She lives in Austin with her husband and two dogs, where she's the editor of Austin Lifestyle Magazine and owner of a boutique marketing and PR company. Chasing Sunsets Down I–80 is her first foray into fiction – since yes, everything you read in the celebrity magazines is 100 percent true.

The story was a joint effort with entrepreneur, philanthropist, former NFL linebacker, author, TV host, explorer and University of Michigan alumni Dhani Jones, who drove Jennifer the entire way to completing this book, both literally and figuratively.
