Samy Ibrahim, born in post–World War II Egypt and was raised in a Christian home that taught him to love God, family, and country. It was from this milieu that the young engineering graduate was drafted into the Egyptian Army. As a first lieutenant, Samy and his soldiers supported a Corps of Engineers' unit opening the gap in the high earth wall along the Israeli–held eastern shores of the Suez Canal. They transported many of the Egyptian Second Army units across the Suez Canal to reach the Bar–Lev line fortifications that were eventually destroyed leading to Sinai's return to its Egyptian homeland.
