Alowenda Zastas was the premier chef in the city of Stirling. A week earlier, her brother was found murdered in the alley next to the kitchen of my tavern, the Plucked Goose. Alowenda was a freed woman, but her brother was a slave, and she wanted the killer caught and punished. Her voice was soft but hard when she spoke.
